I learned a new lesson. Do not glue wood while tired. I figured that I would get a step up on the hall tree build and glue some boards together tonight. I wasnt thinking and didnt clamp the wood down to the bench before I drilled in the pocket holes and the wood drifted. I hate it when that happens. The good news is that the boards I glued together go behind the cubbys and nobody will ever really see them. Im hoping that I can just sand the hell out of them and even them up. Once again, this is the main reason I am using cheap wood. So I can make mistakes like this.

I started assembly on the kids table last night. I used a 1/4" spacer to recess the aprons back a little from the edge. In hindsight I should have recessed them back about 1/2" because one of the legs split a little when I drove in the pocket hole screw. Its not too bad and it is up at the top of the leg so you wont see it under the table top but it is still a bummer. The legs are also bowing in a little so I will probably put in a cross brace on the inside angles.

Another quick and small but satisfying project ...
A simple Pine Dinner Tray which I have made for my girlfriends mum as a thankyou for the tools she gave me a while ago.
I am starting to feel a lot more comfortable simply knocking together these small projects on request.
The simple joinery for the side pieces was cut mostly by eye with very minimal measuring and mark up. I need to be careful that I dont get too lazy!
Another first for me was the Edge to Edge joint I used to make the base board from two pieces of 15mm thick by 145mm wide Pine.
The longest and most tiring part of this project was reducing the thickness of the base board to minimise the overall weight of the tray, while retaining flatness.
Lastly, a quick coat of Boiled Linseed oil to highlight the grain a little and I called it done.
I hope she likes it ...
